Re: COVID-19 Weekly Doula Update
4/6/20
Hello You Brave Beautiful Mamas!
I am just giving an update for the hospitals' and birth centers' limitations so that we are all in the loop. Of course things are changing all the time, but I think weekly updates should be enough so that we are not feeling the weight of COVID-19 24/7 - though I know its difficult not to.
Current Limitations:
Abbott: One person per stay, no midwives
Methodist: One Person per stay, yes midwives
FVRS: One Person per stay, yes midwives
United: One visitor per stay, no MNBC midwives, Abbott midwives delivering at United starting Sunday at 6am
Regions: One person per stay, yes midwives
St Johns: One person per stay, yes midwives
Southdale: One person per stay, yes midwifes
Ridges: One person per stay, Yes midwives
St. Francis: One person, yes midwives
St. Josephs: One person, yes midwives
HCMC: One person, no midwives
North Memorial: One person, no midwives
Regina: One person, no midwives
Mercy: One person, yes midwives but not on call everyday
Woodwinds: One person per stay, yes midwives
Maple Grove: One person per stay, yes midwives
MN Birth Center: Yes midwives, partners & doulas
Roots Birth Center: Yes midwives, partners & doulas
Health Foundations: Yes midwives, partners & doulas
Willow Birth Center: Yes midwives, partners & doulas
Now, if anyone has questions for me, please reach out! I'm here for you and with you, to talk about options, answer questions, and provide resources and support.
If you feel that you need to grieve the loss of what you are giving up; the change in plans, birth location, or support team members - please know that I feel your pain and will do whatever I can to ease the transition, including virtual support and in-person support before going to the hospital for birth.
Some current preparation techniques that folks are finding helpful (if you aren't already doing so) are: Hypnobabies, Centering, Online Birth Education, getting good sleep, journaling, letting go of expectations, Telehealth with a counselor or therapist, healthy foods, staying hydrated, showering once per day, and remembering to breathe.
With you,
Amy the Doula
