Thank you SO much for all of your help. I couldn't have done it without you. It was such a blessing to have you here.
It was absolutely invaluable to have you here with us. You changed the entire birth experience and outcome the moment you walked in started repositioning baby, and you made [my wife] feel way more at ease and comfortable. Thank you for everything. ~O.C.
When my wife and I took some time to reflect on our journey so far, we identified two major decisions that impacted the outcome of our pregnancy more than everything else. The first was, obviously, making the decision to tackle the adventure of parenthood. The second was Amy.
Pregnancy is never easy; however, Amy took away so much of our anxiety and stress because her experience and knowledge provide opportunities to find solutions that fit your journey. No one's pregnancy is the same and Amy recognizes that and works with you to find solutions that fit your needs and your goals. Her perspective, outlook, and positivity make even the toughest days of the third and fourth trimester a bit brighter (especially since she's literally always available).
There is so much more that we can't put into words but we honestly could not have chosen a more spectactular person to bring into our pregnancy. Thank you so much for everything!

Amy was an amazing doula! She helped us think through and write out our birth plan, answering all of our many questions and helping us confidently prepare for labor and birth. In the end, our breech baby never flipped, so we needed a C-section, but we were still so grateful to have Amy there! She talked us through every step and helped keep me calm during surgery. She also took amazing photos, which we will cherish forever! She also helped connect us with a number of resources postpartum, including donor breast milk, cranial sacral therapist, and lactation consultant. Amy is always just a text message away, providing resources and support when needed. Thank you!

Amy helped us to have our dream birth experience! When our first birth didn’t go as well as we hoped, we knew for our second that we needed a doula. We heard about Amy through a friend who had her as a doula and said she was amazing. Upon meeting her we knew right away she was the right fit for us. She is calm, kind, open, intelligent, funny, and empathetic. She kept us calm and optimistic through a tough last few weeks of the pregnancy and her presence and suggestions helped make an intense labor feel manageable. We were able to follow our birth plan and it’s because of Amy’s guidance and support! Looking back it was a truly beautiful birth experience that felt peaceful, empowering, and joyful. We got everything we hoped for and Amy was one of the main reasons it went so well! Another reason for this is the beautiful photos Amy took of the labor and birth that we will cherish forever. Having her be our doula is one of the best decisions we made and allowed us to bring our child into the world joyfully and lovingly. ~Alexa
I know that no one can wave a magic wand and give us a painless birth, but Amy made me feel cared for and supported the whole way through. Even when my provider was pushing for an unnecessary cesarean, Amy advocated for me and made me feel heard. I know that many people have C-sections that are necessary to save lives, so I am very grateful to have had someone knowledgeable by my side. If I had to have a C-section, I know that Amy would've been in the OR right along side me too. She slept on the floor when my husband and I were able to rest, and she somehow took the most amazing photos without me even knowing and I will love them forever. Can't say enough good things about her!

I knew when I first spoke with Amy that she was the right person to help me through my pregnancy. I wanted an unmedicated labor and I knew I would need help. I was okay if I needed to be take pain meds or have an induction but I had read and researched and made my own personal decision that an unmedicated labor was best.
Amy helped me so much. She supported my decision. I was 10 days postterm and feeling the pressure to induce but Amy assured me that my baby would come when her time was right. She pushed me to connect with my baby and feel confident about my body's capacity to go into labor naturally. Contractions came suddenly out of the blue and I labored through them. During the delivery, Amy made me feel safe. It was my first pregnancy and every feeling was new :"is this supposed to happen?" "what if i..?" So many uneasy feelings and questions. Amy made me feel safe and she was always by my side through a scary and confusing moment.
It was of course the most important and beautiful moment of my life. And I am so happy Amy was there to share it with me and help me get to where I wanted. I look back on the pregnancy and birth with so much pride. I went through A LOT and with Amy's support, I was able to do it just the way I wanted. Thank you.

After my first birth which I did not have a doula for and was in a hospital, I knew I definitely wanted two things the second time around: an out of hospital birth, and a doula! Amy came highly recommended from a friend of mine who also hired her for her out of hospital birth at the MN Birth Center. I can not say enough good things about Amy’s gentle, confident support through my whole birth. From something so simple as the encouragement she provided via text leading up to the birth, to touching my foot during a contraction to help me feel more grounded (I had no idea how helpful that could be!) to many many techniques to help baby into a good position and make birth progress smoothly, to providing me emotional support when I was feeling guilty about keeping my birth workers from their families (oh boy…lots to unpack there! Haha). She had an endless depth of compassion and knowledge that made the entire birth experience a comfortable, calm, and confident endeavor. She also took so many amazing photos and a video of the moment baby was born that I can’t watch without tearing up. Her intuition for how to provide support during birth is incredible. If I find myself in need of birth support again, I will definitely go back to Amy, and I’ve been enthusiastically recommending her to any pregnant person I know!

You were such a wonderful support for us during pregnancy and labor. Thank you for kindly pushing me to take charge of my birth and feel empowered in my choices. Thank you for having confidence in me even when I didn’t. Thank you for your steadiness and encouragement during labor. And thank you for letting me squeeze the crap out of your hand when I needed to!! You were a lifeline for us. Thank you!! ~Sam
Could not recommend Amy highly enough! She is a kind, supportive, and passionate doula. She was available to us via text and provided great recommendations and referrals leading up to labor. She was an amazing support during labor and came over to our house soon after getting home from the hospital to check in on us and offer breastfeeding support. ~Hayley
With only being allowed one person for my labor and delivery I could not have been happier with my choice of having Amy along with me. Amy was an AMAZING support during my labor and delivery. She was definitely there to support me in any way that I needed. I wish I had Amy there for my first labor as her support would have been extremely beneficial. I most definitely plan on having Amy as my doula for any future pregnancies. ~Kiana
I can’t write enough words to say how indispensable Amy was for our entire birth process. We paid for the package that included two meetings before birth and five after along with her help from beginning to end of the labor experience. She went wayyy above and beyond anything we could have asked for. She was available at any time of day or night and was our go to person with any questions we had about really anything at all! Additionally I feel we have found a life long friend in her, as I began referring to Amy as our “spirit doula.” I honestly think she should be charging 2-3x the amount she does for the services she provides. I can’t wait to hire her again!!!

If you are pregnant or planning on getting pregnant soon I would strongly recommend that you consider hiring a doula to really make your pregnancy less stressful and offer you more support and education! Specifically my dear sweet friend Amy. I wrote a long review but I truly cannot gush enough about how magnificent it was to have her along for the ride. She was supportive and caring throughout my pregnancy and helped me stay calm (as calm as I can be under such stress) during my lengthy hospital stay and labor. Love this girl and how she is chasing her dream!
I Love Love Love you! I would have you at every birth and all my loved ones births! ~ Allie
It is impossible to overstate just HOW integral a part of our prenatal preparedness, labor and birth, and postpartum recovery Amy was! From increasing our strength and confidence in our partnership in advance of labor, to dealing with the unexpected and disappointing (an out-of-the-blue high blood pressure spike that required induction instead of having labor begin naturally), and surprisingly difficult (a particularly alert and challenging newborn), we could NOT imagine our journey to parenthood without Amy.
Also, if you're on the fence about adding postpartum visits, DO IT!!! Regardless of your baby's temperament, there's nothing more challenging (especially for first-time parents) than those first few weeks. You deserve the extra support, mama especially, so you can heal, and partner, too! Every time Amy came over our stress/tension/exhaustion level dropped dramatically and palpably, from the time she walked in to the time she left at the end of the visit. Can't sing Amy's praises loudly enough - she is a gem full of wisdom, experience, and evidence-based knowledge to share with you, and our journey would have been incomplete without her.
We love you, Amy, thanks for making pregnancy, birth, and new life with our little girl so much better!

When I told my husband that I wanted to hire a doula for the birth of our first child his first reaction was “how much does that cost”, followed by, “we don’t need a doula, I can do all those things”. I knew I wanted to try to have an unmedicated birth and after meeting Amy I was adamant that we needed to hire her. Fast forward to the day our son was born, I had been in labor for 6 hours when Amy arrived, I was in a lot of pain and my husband was tired. Amy immediately relieved my husband from his counter-pressure duties and she had the kind, encouraging words I needed to hear. When my labor stalled, Amy suggested new positions and soon after, labor progressed. 12 hours after being admitted to the hospital our baby boy was born and I achieved my goal of having an unmedicated birth. Ask my husband today if a doula is worth the money and he will say, “worth every penny”. Amy is kind, gentle, caring and so knowledgeable. I am so grateful for Amy and I know I wouldn’t have been able to have an unmedicated birth without her. If you’re considering a doula I highly recommend Amy, you won’t be disappointed. ~Brittney
I was ecstatic to have an extra set of hands and a fresh face to emotionally support me through my second labor. I only wish Amy was a doula earlier so she could have been there when I had my first son. I love that she cares for the many facets of the mothers well being during this momentous event in their lives. She is well educated, wonderfully joyful and optimistic, and just a doula with a compassionate heart who wants to give these babies the most harmonious entrance into the world that she can. ~ Lacey
Amy is fantastic! I can't imagine having better support through pregnancy, labor and delivery. Although my partner and I took various pregnancy/baby classes, far and away the most useful information we got was from Amy. She helped us make sense of the birth plan worksheet, checked in regularly to see how I was doing, and even helped me advocate for myself at the hospital (Amy is a fantastic listener and extraordinary committed to meeting you where you are and honoring your decisions). She was also invaluable support to both me and my partner during a long labor, helping me find more comfortable positions, helping me communicate with hospital staff when I was too nauseated to speak up, coaching both me and my partner, and generally creating exactly the kind of environment I needed. Working with Amy was such a positive experience I ended up asking her to work with me as a postpartum doula as well. Highly recommend! ~ Heidi
We really appreciated your calm presences and encouragement!
I would highly recommend hiring Amy if you're considering a doula! I truly believe she made a difference in the birth of my daughter. My first birth did not go as planned (as is usually the case!) so for my second I decided to hire a doula. Amy was knowledgeable, easy to talk to/connect with, and offered suggestions without being pushy. Her approach to offering resources and her opinions on my selected path made all the difference. She always was honest, but I never felt pressured to go "her way" with my child's birth. Ultimately, I took her recommendations and we had an amazing experience! She was available for my delivery and offered great suggestions throughout labor to help baby make her way into the world. Out of all our decisions that led to having such an awesome birth, hiring Amy was the catalyst. ~ Lauren
Amy was the best!!! She attended my birth in May 2020 at Willow Birth Center. (2nd time mama at Willow) Amy was professional and friendly and knowledgeable. I was in labor denial the entire time until literally my water broke but Amy knew something was up and stayed in close contact all day from 6am to when I told her to meet me at Willow after my water broke. She met me there right away, and supported me while I labored for 30 min at Willow. Then precious baby arrived just 30 minutes after we got to Willow. Almost had a car baby LOL. I would use Amy for the next. Thank you Amy. Amy has stayed in contact at 7 months postpartum. Which seems like not a big deal for most, but if mama is truly struggling, a simple check in can make a HUGE impact if it leads to a referral or general advice. ~ Julie
Amy was the best!! My husband and I connected with her right away. She is warm, funny, and super knowledgeable. I asked SO many questions in our meetings before the birth and she was super patient and supportive. My birth ended up going a different direction than I was hoping (as most do!) and because of the support Amy provided, I was able to still love and appreciate my whole birthing experience. We are now with a big, happy, healthy baby boy and couldn’t be happier <3 ~ Lisa
It was so nice to have you here. Your suggestions and voice were helpful. You knew what to say and when to say it which was super helpful. Helping with the surgery part (after a beautiful water birth) was essential. Not just today but during the whole pregnancy. Having advice, support, and knowing you were there to help with anything was so beneficial. ~ Ted
Amy was my life line through my entire birth. She was my support, advocate, rescuer and comforter. She is especially great with women who have limited support and need to feel seen and heard! She was prepared for everything, never seemed overwhelmed, tired and was always present. She was a Godsend and blessing. ~ Anissa
Would not have survived 16 hours of back labor without Amy! She is 100% there for every minute you need her, and is on call for advice and support before and after birth as well. She also takes amazingly beautiful and tasteful portraits and I highly recommend utilizing her services as a birth photographer as well as a doula. ~ Elizabeth
Amy was such an amazing piece of our birth story. From the moment we met her, we knew her knowledge, experience, training, and calming presence were going to perfectly compliment our needs for our child's birth. Amy was extremely responsive, prompt and direct with her communication, which helped ease this anxious mama's mind when I had questions or needed guidance. She made us feel empowered and helped support and educate BOTH my husband and I through the entire process in pre-labor, labor and postpartum. During our labor, Amy's ability to help me regulate, focus on my breathing, and remain calm helped my body to relax and bring our baby into the world safely. Her hands-on expertise with techniques such as counter pressure, massage, and recommendations for positioning also helped me to feel physically more comfortable without need for additional medical intervention, which was my hopes for delivery. We cannot say enough nice things about our experience with Amy, and will definitely use her again for any future pregnancies/ deliveries we hope to have! ~ Alex
While taking prenatal classes and reading books on pregnancy and labor was helpful, nothing helped me as much as having Amy by my side. As my doula, Amy helped me stay focused and strong throughout my entire labor. From the moment she walked in I felt comforted and cared for--and most importantly like I was not alone. I cannot recommend Amy enough. She was absolutely instrumental in helping us bring our son into the world. ~ Livy
You were so steady and present.
If you're reading this then you're already thinking about getting a doula and I can say with total confidence that you owe it to yourself to at least talk with amy before you make a decision. My wife and I were worried and anxious about the birth of our first child and Amy put every last doubt to rest. She is incredibly knowledgeable and has an almost unbelievable amount of positive energy. I know now that had we gone ahead without her we would've been ill prepared to meet the challenges that lay ahead of us. She kept us sane before, during, and after the birth. I would give her more stars if I could but as it stands wholly mama birth doula is an absolute treasure trove of information and support. You will not regret hiring her. ~ Keith
Amy, I just want to tell you a million and one thank you's. You were of help in every way and I can't thank you enough for that. You did the most for me. I can't wait to see you again and for you to come see baby. I would recommend you to any labor and delivery! Hands down. You are awesome. Keep up the awesome work mama. ~ Gabriel
Having you beside me and my husband was the best choice we made for the birth of our baby girl. Keeping our eyes on the prize and providing guidance when we didn't know what to do next was incredibly helpful. You really allowed us to be mindful and present- thank you so much for all your support! For any Mama thinking about having a doula, it is so amazing having another person on your team and Amy was the perfect gal for us.
It was so Great to have you with us Amy, Thank you.
We decided to hire a doula to help my husband and I feel more confident going into labor with our first child. I immediately felt comfortable with Amy during our initial consultation, and was confident that we would be a good fit. She helped me ask good questions and determine what I wanted in my birth. Although my labor didn't go according to my initial plan, Amy supported and encouraged each of my decisions and really helped me to feel proud of my birth story. I highly recommend Amy, whether you are hoping to go "all natural" or whether you plan to have an epidural, c-section, etc. She helped us process the entire experience and made it one I am incredibly thankful for! ~ Rebecca
When you're pregnant, you make countless decisions on a daily basis - having Amy as our doula was truly one of the best decisions we made. As first time parents, I knew from the beginning that we needed a doula to guide us during pregnancy and birth, so we set off on our search. I felt nervous as I reviewed countless websites - knowing myself, I had already decided that I wanted an epidural, and felt that decision was not ~truly~ supported by many of the doulas I reviewed. When finding Amy, I felt safe and confident in the decisions I made about my body and my birth. Amy provided evidence based data in a way that helped me make decisions, stick to what I knew to be best for me and my baby, and feel empowered doing so. My birth did not go as planned, however, the moment Amy arrived, I felt calm and at peace. Amy gave me the additional strength and support that got me through the unexpected. Whatever your birth decisions are, and however your birth actually turns out, Amy will be right there in your corner, providing exactly what you need at any given moment. Amy was incredibly knowledgeable, supportive, and our advocate. I can't say enough positive words about Amy, and highly recommend her as your doula. ~ Sara
Amy is awesome. From her pre-birth visits to her postpartum ones, she makes every encounter enjoyable and incredibly useful. Amy kept up a great line of communication with me throughout our time working together by texting me encouraging messages and checking in on how I was doing. She is very knowledgeable and caring and used these skills to help make my birthing experience as easy and positive as possible. I appreciated the tips Amy had both before the baby came and while I was in labor, to help prepare my body and make the contractions more bareable. She is open to whatever your birthing choices are and does everything she can to support you and your support person (in my case, my husband) through this challenging and wonderful time. Overall, Amy is a kick-butt doula and someone I now consider a friend. ~ Kate
Amy was amazing and full of ideas and suggestions. She never was fazed or discouraged and she helped me stay focused and was... basically superhuman. ~ Katelyn
My first birth was very traumatic; I even showed signs of post traumatic stress following the experience. I was hesitant to get pregnant again and go through the process all over. After deciding we did want to have another baby I knew I really needed some additional support, mentally and physically, as well as more information on ways to improve my birthing experience this time around. Both my pregnancies were high risk due to pre-existing medical conditions so there were lots of complications and the potential for even more. My spouse and I agreed to hire Amy as our Doula. Amy was with me throughout my pregnancy to dig deeper into my concerns and thoroughly educate me on the path ahead. Amy continuously checked on me and reminded me of upcoming tasks, all the while encouraging me to relax and teaching me some mindfulness techniques to go along with some yoga stretches for my sore hips. Amy’s visits reassured me that this birth would not be as traumatic and during this time we explored options to improve my experience. We made a birth plan and talked about the different possibilities, good and bad, of what could happen and how I wanted them handled if they were to come to fruition. I felt at ease knowing that my wishes would be respected in case the unthinkable happened. Amy was non-judgmental about my inquiries and entertained even my most unique requests. When I was admitted to the hospital for induction at 36 weeks Amy was attentive and helpful. I was in the hospital for four days during which time she stopped in as I requested and in anticipation for the arrival of my son. Amy coached me through my epidural and continued to give me words of encouragement with my preferences in mind (I didn’t want to hear things like, “You can do this!” I know I can do it, I did it before and at this point I have no choice but to do it!) Twice during my grueling four days in the hospital, including the most painful portion of my contractions on the night prior to my sons birth, Amy guided me to sleep with a mindfulness exercise paired with a gentle massage. With her assistance I was able to get some well needed rest before I entered the final stage of labor. Amy was also helpful to my family by helping in any way she could. She was a strong advocate for me and the baby when I was too weak or incapacitated to speak for myself. You truly never know how much help an extra set of hands can be until you see the results of their aid. I am so thankful that we had Amy Lynn as our Doula which I know truly made my pregnancy and birthing experience as joyful and smooth as it could be. There is compassion to Amy’s service that is unparalleled in my experience, further proving she was made to Doula.
This is what you were meant to do. It is your soul's purpose.
Thank you Amy! I love you! And thank you for the pictures, they make my heart burst! So special. I can't thank you enough!
I just wanted to mention that it was obvious that you impacted my patient during her stay. My patient was so appreciative of you and lit up when you entered the room to say hi and check in :) Just wanted to reach out and let you know what you are doing is so important and I know it is making a difference in these patients' lives. And you are awesome! Keep it up! (RN)
I just wanted to say how much I appreciated you, and that I couldn't have done it without you. You were such a Joy!
Thank you for being with us and for reminding me how to be a better support person for [my wife]. You reminded me when and how to massage her, when to cheer her up, when to play her special music, and what to say to keep her motivated. Thank you!
Amy was incredible! My husband and I had gone back and forth on getting a doula for awhile but figured we'd meet Amy for coffee and see how we felt. Going with her as our doula was the best decision we made throughout our entire pregnancy. We read books, took birthing classes, and generally prepped as much as we could but nothing beat having Amy's warm, calm, and knowledgeable demeanor. She helped me breathe through each contraction, knew when to coax me into change positions, and most importantly, let my husband and I share the experience in a way we wouldn't have been able to without her. If we ever have another babe, you can be sure we'll be asking Amy to join us again. ~ Kateri
You should train other doulas! Thank you! You were great!
My husband and I had not even considered hiring a doula during our pregnancy until we took a childbirth class through the hospital and the instructor was also a Doula. I was very anxious about giving birth and learning how to care for a newborn so the idea of having help was intriguing, but the cost was a big deterrent for me. I also ignorantly thought that the delivery nurses would be able to provide the same care as a Doula would, so it seemed unnecessary to pay an additional cost for the same help. However, I kept going back to the fact that we were both older, it took a lot for us to become pregnant and this was going to be our one and only child. After hearing so many people’s horror stories about delivery and the newborn stage, I wanted our experience to be different.
We met Amy and clicked instantly. She brought a sense of peace and calm to me and was able to work with my husband and I to address our specific questions and concerns. She catered her approach to us and what we needed, and took a lot of time to identify how she could best help us during our journey (pregnancy, delivery and postpartum). We decided to hire Amy as our Doula during delivery and for postpartum care and it was completely worth it. We truly invested in a positive overall experience, not just a Doula, and that is what we got. My husband and I both believe that had Amy not been there during my delivery, I would have had a C-section and our experience would have been very different. Instead we had a very calm and positive birth experience, and Amy was the reason for that! She was there during a very intense time and was able to comfort me, help educate my husband on how to help me, and even made suggestions to the medical staff about positioning during labor that we believe helped prevent a C-section!
After having such a wonderful experience with Amy post-partum, we decided to continue our relationship and enroll in more visits. We love having Amy come to our home and help us with our questions, demonstrate how to do various things with our baby (bathing, wrap wearing, feeding, etc.) and answer all of our random questions giving us peace. She gives us confidence and reassurance along with resources for us to use, which has all helped ease our anxieties as new parents. Without Amy I think this would have been a difficult journey for my husband and I. I highly recommend Amy as a Doula for anyone. To have a positive experience with our first and only child has been the best investment we've ever made! ~ Stacey

My partner and I truly appreciated the confidence & support Amy provided as a doula for the birth of our son. Birth is intense and having her there was awesome.
Amy was an incredible asset during my pregnancy, labor and postpartum period. I truly don’t know what I would have done without her, and that is true even though I also had two other wonderful support people present at the birth as well. Even though her role is extremely physically and emotionally demanding, she never let it show and was always ready with an idea of what to try next. Nothing shocked or alarmed her - and her calm demeanor and steady voice got me through hours of contractions that seemed unbearable. When my husband became exhausted, she made sure he was taking care of himself. When my water broke unexpectedly and my labor started 3 weeks before my due date, she was on the phone with me in minutes to calm me down and answer my questions. She also captured pictures that I will forever treasure as I look back on my son’s birth. It was her coaching (not my midwives or nurses) that helped me understand how to push and find a position that worked. Overall - Amy was an amazing doula and I would highly recommend her! ~ Katelyn
Amy had an amazing presence in the labor room without being overbearing. She read the mother and suggested helpful techniques that helped this birth be as easy and safe as it was. I would work with her any day!
You were THE BOMB! Thank you. ~ Anna
Amy was an integral part of my wife and I’s pregnancy and labor. From a husbands perspective, I can say we could not have done it without her. She took the time to meet with us multiple times to educate us on exercises and preparation beforehand, and was an excellent source of strength and knowledge for us throughout labor and delivery. Her recommendations and advocacy for my wife during that intense time helped her focus, find relief, and feel supported in every way. Can’t recommend her services enough, and my wife and I will continue to refer her to friends and family. ~ Ryan
Having Amy as our doula was an absolute blessing. From the moment we met her and all throughout our time together, her energy was so healing and optimistic. She normalized fears and shared her knowledge openly, always without judgement. We felt at home with her. One of the most memorable prenatal visits was when she took us step by step through the birthing process. She demonstrated and explained birth from the beginning to the end with different scenarios and answered our questions along the way. It was eye-opening and I learned a lot from it, (and I’m a pediatric RN)! There were many things I didn’t know that Amy shed light on. She was great. And when it came to labor and delivery, Amy was there for us and supported us with whatever we needed. She let my fiancé and I guide with what we wanted and would make suggestions so we could choose what felt best. I am convinced that Amy’s suggestion to do squats on our walk helped to quicken my labor, and I delivered our baby only a few hours later. I could go on, but the last thing I want to highlight is the fact that Amy captured pictures throughout labor and delivery, and it is just so incredible to have them. Amy was a wonderful birthing partner and advocate, and we will forever be grateful for her support! ~Jessie
Amy is the best doula I could have ever asked for she is amazing very helpful and knowledgeable. I had issues with an obgyn when I was in delivery with my son who is now almost 2 yrs old and a friend referred me to Everyday Miracles and I was lucky enough to be placed with Amy. I simply explained to her the bad experience I had and how frustrating it was with what I went through and didn't want that to happen again with this pregnancy and she was able to help me out and made things a whole lot better. I just had my baby on Friday she did such an amazing job and I'm so glad she was able to be there for me to comfort me etc it was well worth it!! I highly recommend Amy to be your doula!! ~ Sara
There are so many wonderful things I can say about working with Amy for our birth process! This was our first child, so my husband and I were a bit overwhelmed with figuring out what exactly to do to prepare, but as soon as we had our first visit with Amy, we both felt more at ease. On several occasions my husband said something like “I’d really be feeling scared for the birth if Amy wasn’t going to be with us”. Having her on our team helped make our last months of pregnancy peaceful.
Amy is brilliant and it is clear that she has found her calling – this came through as we created a birth plan together. There were so many things that came up in our conversations that I hadn’t even considered, which I believe is a direct result of her rich experiences in birth work.
I also felt reassured knowing that she had supported many women through unmedicated births in the past. As my guess date got closer, Amy was able to answer several “what if” or “hey this is happening…is this weird, or normal?” questions – and in one particularly tender moment, Amy was there to listen as I spewed out my vulnerabilities about becoming a mother.
To me, this is why Amy is amazing – she embodies intellect that is rooted in experience while also providing a soft place to land. These things together made her feel grounding to me, and my anxious new-momma heart needed to tether myself to someone during this transition. I needed someone who could confidently look me in the eyes and tell me that I encompassed all that was necessary to bring my baby into the world, and Amy was that person.
The moments we exchanged during the birth were brief because it ended up being unexpectedly short – a little under 4 hours! (Maybe it was all of the great exercises she gave us during our second home visit!) – but when she arrived at the birth center I could feel her feminine energy moving through the air like a wave and as she held my hand and whispered words of encouragement I was able to shift into a deeper level of calm as I birthed my son in the water.
What surprised me the most about hiring a doula, though, was the profound impact of the post-natal visit. Amy held space beautifully as we talked about how my birth was very different from what I envisioned. During the conversation, we looked back through the photos and short videos she took while I was laboring in the tub. As we looked at them, I was overcome with emotion as my body reminded me that I had never felt as centered and anxiety-free as I did when I was actively giving birth to my son.
Amy’s presence at my birth, as well as her natural talent for photography, helped me to realize that in all actuality I was tethered to myself all along – I really did have all I needed to birth my son.
Amy, I am forever grateful to you for being a guide as I uncovered a new layer of my feminine strength and an inner knowing rooted in self-trust. ~ Kayla
